Here are the rules for the SGSSS ‘Gurbani Kanth’ Competition:
1. Eligibility and Registration
– This competition is only for children under (and including) 16 years old.
– There is no registration fee.
– Contestants must register online at sgsss.org/gurbanikanth to participate.
– Parents or guardians must accompany contestants under the age of 16 during all parts of the competition.
2. Competition Format
– Contestants are required to recite Bani from memory, without looking at any Pothi sahib or Device.
– Proper pauses (Vishrams) must be observed for meaningful recitation.
– Each contestant may attempt to recite each chosen Bani only once during the competition.
3. Rules of Participation
Contestants will be tested and points will be awarded/deducted depending on:
– Correct pronunciation of the Bani.
– Forgetting any part of the Gurbani.
– Consistently missing or misinterpreting the Vishrams.
– Repeats a line or shabad excessively.
– Participants must adhere to the time slots allocated for their recitation.
4. Prize and Recognition
– All winners will be announced and awarded in the Awards Ceremony in the presence of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Jee at the end of the day
– Contestants who win a prize for a particular Bani are not eligible to compete for a prize in the same Bani in future competitions.
– Participants who do not successfully recite a Bani may attempt it again in the following year
5. General Conduct
– Contestants and their families are expected to maintain respect and decorum appropriate to the spiritual significance of the event.
– All participants must check in with competition officials upon arrival and remain present until their scheduled performance time.
